Nafisah Clay Mental Health Counseling PLLC
Nafisah Clay Mental Health Counseling, PLLC is a fully telehealth mental health private practice that provides compassionate, culturally responsive mental health counseling for adults ages 18 and older. The practice supports clients navigating anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, life transitions, relationship concerns, and other challenges that affect emotional well-being.
The practice was born out of a personal commitment to self-care, intentional living, and defining success on my own terms. After years of working within traditional mental health systems and corporate environments, I wanted to create a practice that reflected my purpose, passions, and values while giving clients space to do the same. My approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and grounded in culturally responsive and decolonizing principles. Counseling focuses on helping clients better understand themselves, develop meaningful coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and create a life that feels more aligned, sustainable, and fulfilling.

Throughout her career, she has supported individuals through a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, and relationship concerns. Her professional experience also includes clinical education, leadership, and staff development, all of which have shaped her belief that meaningful mental health care should be both practical and deeply human.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you offer consultation calls?
Yes. I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation call for prospective clients who would like to learn more about my approach, discuss what they are looking for in therapy, and determine whether we may be a good fit. A consultation is an opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of what working together might look like before scheduling a full session.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. I accept select health insurance plans, as well as private-pay clients. Insurance participation can vary by plan, so I encourage prospective clients to reach out to confirm whether their specific plan is accepted and to discuss available options.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes. My practice is fully remote, and I provide secure telehealth counseling to adults located throughout New York State. This allows clients to access therapy from the comfort and privacy of their own space.
What type of client is the best fit for my practice?
Adults who are looking for self-understanding, personal growth, practical tools, and a therapist who will consider their cultural and lived experiences.
What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy is collaborative and tailored to you. I use a holistic, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and decolonizing approach that considers the whole person and the context in which they are living. My goal is to create a space where you can be honest, curious, and supported while developing practical tools and greater insight to help you move toward the life you want.
What makes your approach different?
I believe therapy should be more than simply managing symptoms. Our work can also explore patterns, relationships, identity, values, environment, and the ways larger systems and life experiences may influence your well-being. I strive to help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves while identifying sustainable ways to create meaningful change.
How do I get started?
The first step is to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation. From there, we can determine whether my services and approach align with your needs and discuss next steps for beginning therapy.
