National Black Authors Day Literacy Extravaganza – May 4th
Founded by CaTyra Polland of Love For Words, National Black Authors Day is a celebration of Black Authors around the country. This year’s theme is literacy and encouraging folks to read different stories and connect with books and authors on a deeper level. This event will take place on May 4th, 2024 at the Avenue Blackbox Theatre in Rochester, NY.
DJ Railroad is spinning on the 1’s and 2’s at Red White & Brew! I didn’t mean for that to rhyme but it did. Anyway, DJ Railroad will be playing the hottest jams from the 70’s, lo-fi, funk, and indie genres on Friday. Check it out and bring a friend! It is free to get in.

The Flower City has some beautiful flowers to sell! Come to the City of Rochester Public Market on these specific days to see vendors selling flowers of all types to freshen up your indoor and outdoor spaces. There are quite a few opportunities but they all occur in May only! This is not to be missed!

She loves to sew and loves to teach others how to sew. In her own words, she says learning to sew has been a game changer!

The world-famous Lilac Festival is back in town from May 10-19th, 2o24. The Lilac Festival celebrates its 126th year with nonstop action every day from the 10th to the 19th. I’m looking forward to it (though my allergies might not be). There’s always good food, vendors, activities, music, and of course lilacs!
Salsero Roc and Roc Kizomba presents: Body & Soul a night of dance lessons (salsa, bachata, kizomba) and dancing at Red, White, and Brew of Rochester. Featuring DJ Salsero! $10/cover $7 college students w/ ID.
Red, white, and Brew is known for its broad selection of NYS wines and spirits. It is actually why I like it so much! Each month they bring in a few vendors from NYS to share their items and play good music while doing so. It is free and is always a great time!
Mother’s Day is around the corner so why not treat her to an event where she can shop til she drops and have luxurious spa services in the process? On May 11th, 2024 there’s a self-care soiree to encourage folks to take care of the most important person in their life, themselves! Check it out!
