August is here and that means festival season is in full swing!!! The main event is Carifest Parade & Festival. Where is the year going?! If you’re anything like me you’ve been looking forward to this time of year because Rochester, NY starts to get really bumping with so many more things going on this month! Here’s a list of things you can attend in the order they happen!
Here’s a breakdown of some major August festivals:
Music & Culture:
Puerto Rican Festival: Early August (Aug 1-2) for music, food, and culture at Parcel 5.
Carifest Parade & Festival: A highlight on August 9th with a parade and festivities at MLK Jr. Park.
Rochester Summer Soul Music Festival: August 9th at Innovative Field, celebrating soul music.
Hoochenanny Music & Whiskey Festival: A big event (Aug 8-10) at Camp Eastman with national bands and whiskey tastings.
South Wedge Fest: A neighborhood party on August 16th.
Lyell Avenue Music & Culture Fest: A free, vibrant cultural celebration at the end of August (Aug 31).
Pan Afrikan Festival: A cultural event at the Highland Bowl.
Food & Drink:
Flour City Brewers Fest: Beer lovers gather at the Public Market on August 22nd.
Fairport Music Festival: Features music and food in the nearby village of Fairport.
Hop Harvest Festival: Late August (Aug 30) at Genesee Country Village & Museum.
History & Arts:
Fiddle & Folk Festival: A traditional music event at Genesee Country Village & Museum on August 16-17.
Corn Hill Landing: Hosts events like the Flotsam River Circus in early August.
