A Pre-Juneteenth Rally – From 1964 to 2024: Sixty Years in the Fight for Justice in Rochester

June 8 @ 11:00 am - 3:30 pm

Free

The Greater Rochester Martin Luther King Jr. Commission is hosting a rally to spotlight the July 1964 Uprising, aiming to provide historical insight into the three days of unrest and the opportunity to shape the future of justice in our community.

Listen to community leaders discuss how past issues influence our present and join the call to action for a better future. Enjoy performances by Cinnamon Jones and the Antioch Baptist Church Youth Choir, walk the path of the 1964 Uprising, and proceed to the Little Theatre to watch the films “July ’64” and “Black Lives Matter: A Sanctuary for Daniel Prude.” The Emmy-nominated documentary “July ’64,” directed by Carvin Edison, offers poignant insights into the events of 1964, resonating with our ongoing struggles and aspirations for a more just society.

Shuttle services back to Mr. Vernon will be available through participating churches. This event is the precursor to our city’s Juneteenth celebration.
